Sleeping well is not a luxury, but a fundamental biological necessity. Maintaining good sleep habits is key to physical, mental, and emotional health. Currently, insomnia and difficulties falling asleep are affecting an increasing number of people, depriving them of the essential rest for their daily well-being.

A Spanish TikTok user, identified as a healthcare professional, revealed a “fail-proof” method for those sleepless nights affecting many individuals. Fernando Mora, a physician psychiatrist and Doctor in Medicine by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, shared a “simple, scientific, and accessible” technique to help fall asleep.

Mora, a chief of the Psychiatry section at Hospital Universitario Infanta Leonor, emphasized that the method is not related to any “infusion” or miraculous supplement. Instead, he recommends “reading a book before sleeping” as a powerful tool for those struggling to fall asleep.

According to Mora, various studies have shown that reading a book for 10 to 20 minutes before going to bed can significantly help in falling asleep. He also mentioned that reading reduces cortisol levels, relaxes the nervous system, and helps disconnect repetitive thoughts.

“It has a scientific basis. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for reducing our activity and preparing the brain for sleep mode,” Mora explained.

On the other hand, Mora discourages the use of smartphones during the last hours of the day, as it can prevent the mind from relaxing.

“Next time you can’t sleep, don’t grab your phone, grab a book. Your brain will thank you,” Mora asserted in his TikTok video.
